Why Grasso

Why Grasso?

Grasso Consulting Engineers

Four decades of structures, a director who does the work himself, and designs that are practical to build. That is what the practice has been built on since 2002.

What we stand for

Director-led

The basis of the practice is a personalised service, with every client’s project looked after by a director. Jim Grasso is involved from the first planning meeting and stays with the project through construction or demolition.

Practical, cost-effective design

Our aim is to protect the client’s interests: designs that are practical to build and cost-effective, drawing on a wealth of experience and the latest design software.

Properly detailed

Documentation detailed so that accurate information reaches everyone involved in design development and construction. Fewer questions on site, fewer surprises.

Demolition specialists

More than 30 years of technical advice on the demolition of high-rise buildings, bridges, mining and ancillary structures, with the four major demolition contractors in NSW and Queensland among our regular clients.

Registered and chartered

Fellow of Engineers Australia, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, NER), APEC Engineer, IntPE(Aus), Registered Design Practitioner – Structural (NSW) and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland.

Why choose Grasso?

For contractors, a demolition engineer who is in the room from the outset. For owners, a structural designer who signs his own drawings.

Demolition

From the first meeting

Involved in planning from the outset with the contractor, assisting with the demolition methodology and approving the structural engineering content of the work method statements.

One engineer, start to finish

A director looks after your project from brief to sign-off. The person who inspects the structure is the person who designs the solution.

Four decades of structures

More than 40 years in structural and civil engineering: towers to 48 storeys, 20-plus bridges, a 75-metre refinery chimney and hundreds of homes.

Registered in NSW and Queensland

Registered Design Practitioner – Structural (NSW) for regulated designs, and RPEQ for work in Queensland.

The Grasso difference

Five things you can expect on every job.

01

Experience

Jim has designed buildings since 1982 and advised on demolition since the mid-1990s. Most problems on a site are ones he has seen before.

02

Practicality

Designs and methodologies are worked out with the people who will build or dismantle the structure, so they can actually be carried out.

03

Detail

Drawings, calculations and work method statements that say exactly what is to happen, in what order.

04

Safety

Methodology reviewed and the structural content of work method statements approved before work starts; the Shell Clyde refinery chimney came down without incident.

05

Accountability

A chartered, registered engineer signs the work, and is on the end of the phone when something changes on site.

Accreditation

Chartered and registered to sign structural designs in New South Wales and Queensland.
